Day care programDecember 13, 2013
Maryknoll Nepal runs day-care centers in Kathmandu valley for the patients who have received treatment from Aasha Deep and are rehabilitated with their families. Most of the patients do not have a job or occupation. They spend their time at home doing nothing. These centers are open five days a week from 10.00 to 16.00 hours. Participation in the centers keeps the patients engaged in some group activities which prevent relapse, encourages them to be compliant with medication, makes them sociable, and encourages them to function as independently as possible. It also reduces the burden on the family. Each day care center can accommodate about 20 patients. At present, there are centers in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Each unit has one medical personnel and one social worker trained in psychiatry. The staff also visit the patients’ homes to asses their situation.
Services Provided in Day Care Center:
1. 3 months to 1 year enrollment (sometimes more than that) depending on the nature of their illness and rehabilitation.
2. Monthly assessment of the patients by a visiting psychiatrist.
3. Occupational and Vocational therapy activities.
4. Cognitive behavioral therapy activities based on daily structured routine.
5. Follow-up home visits.
6. Case studies.
7. Group activities
